Badland Doves (2021) is a Western action film directed by Paul Winters. The narrative centers on Regina Silva (Jessica Y. Martin), who survives a brutal attack that claims her family’s lives during a dinner celebration. Determined to seek justice, Regina hones her gunfighting skills and embarks on a quest for vengeance.
Her journey leads her to a brothel managed by Victoria Bonham (Sandy Penny), where a recent murder of one of the prostitutes has occurred. Regina discovers that both she and the women of the brothel are pursuing the same culprit: Pete Chalmers (Daniel Johnston). Protected by his influential father, Mr. Chalmers (Manny Greenfield), Pete operates with impunity in a town where the sheriff and local authorities turn a blind eye to his crimes.
United by a common goal, Regina, Victoria, and the other women, including Cora Washington (Michelle Nuquay) and Ekta (Elizabeth Selby), arm themselves to confront the corruption and violence perpetrated by Pete and his father’s cohorts. The film portrays their struggle against a male-dominated society that seeks to suppress their quest for justice.
Despite its promising premise, Badland Doves has been critiqued for its low-budget execution, poorly staged action sequences, and lackluster villains. However, the performances of Jessica Y. Martin and Sandy Penny have been noted for their dedication to their roles.
